part1. this series of work plays on the typical trendy home decor one would hang on their wall where the message being displayed targets the issues revolving around gender roles. These cameos share statements that can be said by//directed to any//all genders. Whether we notice it or not, these bold statements stand up against these various problems that anyone can be dealing with on a day-to-day basis. My goal was to design something that the viewer can get a chuckle out of but still understand that the reality of gender roles can take place with the smallest things.
part2. I wanted to include factual data within this project- but instead of spending time trying to research and record numbers//percentages that are probably outdated or illegitimate- I conducted an open survey with my own questions on the topic of gender roles. I sent this around to my friends and family, sharing all over on social media (snapchat, facebook, twitter, tumblr..etc) to gather any others willing to participate. After receiving an overwhelming amount of response I then decided to create a small book to display these results. I chose an accordion fold because it was compact but when opened it stretched out and shows this long trail of real peoples current thoughts. Each page contains anonymous answers from the survey questions that I found interesting or even humorous. Most would assume that the generation//age gap is the cause as to why the issues on gender roles are still prevalent today, and so I made my survey to see for myself and only asked for those who responded to state their age&gender. To see these various responses on this topic you can see that even through all these differences, all have an overall understanding of what gender roles are because they have dealt with them at some point in their lives.
